Traditional weddings are a thing of the past. Couples are both getting involved in the planning and the results are weddings that encompass their personalities. Creative ideas are in abundance as a new generation puts some twists the traditional styles of their parents.
One of the first things to be embraced by these couples are the invitations. Invitations are being created on new types of paper with revamped patterns that range from Beauty and the Beast to some beautifully embellished custom made designs. Many couples are creating their own invitations as a means to save money. Why not? With everyone owning computers these days, desktop publishing software and a little know how allows you to create invitations that are just as good as ones you can pay a fortune to have printed professionally.
Wedding dresses are another tradition that is getting a make over. Brides are choosing dresses that come in colors rather than the usual white or ecru. Often, they are choosing comfort over style. Several are opting for two dresses, one for the wedding ceremony and an informal dress for the reception. They are also changing from high heeled shoes to bridal slippers. Brides are also taking on the task of choosing a gown that doesn't just look good, but looks good on them. They are doing their research on the type of dress that works on their type of body. Debby covers every aspect of what a bride should consider when choosing her gown. My niece is getting married next year. She thought she knew what gown she wanted. Once she got Debby's book, she realized it wasn't going to be the type she should consider. As a full time student working on her doctorate, the information she obtained in Debby's book saved her hours of frustration looking for a dress that would have never looked good on her. I highly recommend this book as a gift for a newly engaged friend or family member.
My new friend, Lynda Keeler has an awesome blog, delight, that I make a point of visiting everyday. She has featured some cool items for brides that I have to mention here. The first one is Jewelry for your Cake. I've always believed that every bride is a diva deep down and these cakes enable her to express this part of her personality. They are so cool and elegant looking. Another featured item on delight, is a perfect gift for a bride who wants to put a little spin on the portrait she has done of her in her dress. It's wedding dress art. What a wonderful addition to her gallery of wedding photos.
I can't close this post without mentioning the groom. Groom cakes are making a huge comeback. My cousin got married last summer and had a rich chocolate fudge cake with a Harley Davidson Motorcycle figure on top. The entire cake was resting on four cans of Budweiser beer.
Weddings are a fun events that bring family and friends together to celebrate the beginning of a couple's new life together. It's a celebration that will continue to evolve and embrace new ideas and traditions. Being invited to one where ingenuity and creativity have been used only makes it more fun.
